Rolling Workshops
Switzerland-based International Transport Journal wrote about the new rail service between Asia and Europe. The potential to capture airfreight (mainly sea/air) shipments is relatively as stated by Wolfgang Meier, VP Sales at AirBridge Cargo and Dirk Steiger, head of aviainform. The Russian rail cars could also be used as rolling workshops to enhance value of goods fabricated in China and for customers throughout Europe. Meier went even further, indicating that a combined rail/air service from Western China via Hamburg and onward to the US could be fater than on transpacific service.
