| HKIA stealing air cargo traffic from Changi |

Singapore’s Changi Airport is losing market share to regional rivals as its recovery from last year’s economic downturn continues to be sluggish. In July, cargo handled at Changi increased by 11.8% year-on-year to 158,000 tonnes, and over the first seven months of this year, around one million tonnes was handled, representing an increase of 15.8% on a year earlier. However, tonnage volumes and year-on-year growth figures at Changi have been far less dramatic than at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), its fiercest regional rival. HKIA saw cargo throughput climb 24.5% year-on-year to 363,000 tonnes in Julyand in the first seven months of the year, cargo throughput was up 33.3% to 2.3 million tonnes on the previous year.
