HKIA stealing air cargo traffic from Changi
Singapore’s Changi Airport is losing market share to regional rivals as its recovery from last year’s economic downturn continues to be sluggish.

In July, cargo handled at Changi increased by 11.8% year-on-year to 158,000 tonnes, and over the first seven months of this year, around one million tonnes was handled, representing an increase of 15.8% on a year earlier.

However, tonnage volumes and year-on-year growth figures at Changi have been far less dramatic than at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), its fiercest regional rival.

HKIA saw cargo throughput climb 24.5% year-on-year to 363,000 tonnes in Julyand in the first seven months of the year, cargo throughput was up 33.3% to 2.3 million tonnes on the previous year.
