Infrastructure - Dubai World Central International Airport gains Jebel Ali cargo boost
Dubai World Central International Airport increased its monthly cargo averages by almost 10 fold in first half 2011 compared to averages during its first operating year following launch in June, 2010 due to its bonded link with Jebel Ali seaport.

According to state-owned Dubai Airports, it handled an average of 7,477 tonnes a month during 2011 out of a total of 89,729 tonnes. There are no like-for-like figures but in the first six months of opening it averaged monthly tonnage of 795 tonnes.

During its full operating year it had 36 airlines, of which most were cargo charter operations, with over half of aircraft traffic commercial cargo flights at 4,548 movements against a total of 8,198.

"Although the airport is in its infancy, incremental cargo traffic growth has been steady and continues to ramp up as new operations are launched," said Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths.
